Kevin Michael chats to I Like Music
ILM: You had the offer of a full scholarship to Hofstra, but never thought about it because you had a real strong feeling about doing what it is you wanted to do. What's your advice to young people on following their dream career, not necessarily in the music industry but just doing what they want to do career wise?
KEVIN: You know what… this is how I feel about it… I feel like, the thing that you're most passionate about it, that dream that you have, that's a God given talent; that's what you're called to do, called to be. I find way too often we let the world and outside circumstances and forces and people get in your ear, 'oh you can never do that' 'why won't you go to school' 'you're too this and you're too that' and 'you're not enough this or that' 'no you can't do it' and I feel that we get trapped up in that.
So I feel like, the only responsibility to me that God has given us is to live out your dream to see it all the way through. Now, I'm not saying that everything is going to be peaches and cream or easy, but, I think everybody, especially as a young person, has a responsibility to themselves to live out what they are called for. If you don't even try then how would you even know? You can always listen to outside forces because they're always going to be negative in your ear. But they can't live your life for you.
