Kevin Michael chats to I Like Music
ILM: The record showcases an irresistible blend of soul, funk, R&B and pop, conjuring up greats from the past whilst at the same time, adding something totally new. So kind of timeless. Please describe the Kevin Michaels process of making music and writing songs?
KEVIN: It's never one way in particular. I don't like to limit myself. Because it's like if you can't create those circumstances around you then you can't write a great song and that's ridiculous to me. So I don't like to settle on one thing. But, I know myself and I know that being in the studio is the best for me. My best songs come from me sitting there for… sometimes it takes 10 minutes, sometimes it takes two hours, sometimes it takes two days to get it right, but I'm a perfectionist and I won't stop until I get it right. I'm a big person on vibe and the chemistry I have with the producer and the songwriter I'm working with. If our vibe isn't right and we're not gelling correctly then the music usually doesn't turn out well, so I'm a big person on that.
