Kevin Michael chats to I Like Music

I like to write to it as soon as I hear it, the very first time, because my first thought is always my best thought I don't like to let it linger and start something and finish it another day, I'm not that person. But also, I kind of equate it to meditation. I try to clear my mind and think about nothing if possible, and listen to it with true ears, real ears and whatever is meant to be said will come. I don't know where the melody comes I don't know where the lyrics come from, but they just come.

ILM: You began recording as a teen. "At 16, I wrote my first song," he recalls. Do you still have that song?

KEVIN: It's there somewhere. I don't listen to it. I can record something last week and be scared to listen to it this week. I cringe because I've moved past it, I'm always looking for the next creative thing to do, but especially stuff I've done when I was 16. I sound so different, I've grown so much, I sound like Mickey Mouse or something back then, so that's the worst thing in the world. I'm not a big listener of myself, like it's still awkward for me to listen to myself or see myself on TV or look at a picture of myself, I'm very much still the shy Kevin, it's weird.
