ILM: Can you describe the vibe of your debut single From My Heart To Yours?

Laura: When you hear it you can tell it's got that old school flavour, plus there's a little bit of hip hop going on in there! It's just a feel good track you know? It wasn't a complex song that took forever to write. I remember writing it in twenty minutes and at the time being very in love and smitten. It just kind of came out effortlessly. Some of the best songs tend to just write themselves.

ILM: Does that happen often for you? What's the usual process you take when writing your songs?

Laura: I've done the whole 'collaborating with writers' thing and we didn't make a record, thank God. I was able to write the whole album myself. Throughout that process I learnt that what I don't like is that word, "process". Having to go in and talk about structure and talk about marketing...it just kills all vibes. I just like to lock myself in a room, press record and keep jamming until I get the bones of a song, the lyrics and where it's going. Then I might sit back and think about the structure a little bit. But it's all about when you get that feeling. My mum's always the witness to me writing. I live with her and she'll say "Oh God, Laura's off...." she's says I'm like someone possessed! I'll suddenly just be like "Oh my God! I have to write! I'm going to lock the room, don't come in, don't come in!" It just happens like that, it's just "Bang!" Then maybe in a few more days that feeling will come again. I try and write as much as I can when it does because I don't have that process or order.
