MARK: And a good combination of that and the lyrics too. Phil did a great job doing the lyrics for that song, which were in fact second draft. Because we recorded the song with a set of lyrics and felt that the lyrics were a bit dark, much darker than the lyrics you hear now, so Phil went away and did a rewrite and came up with the running in the family idea of 'Joseph and Emily on the back seat of the car, which is much more immediate to people I think and something that most people can relate to, being a kid and sitting on the back seat of your mum and dads car.
ILM: Because your sound is a soundtrack to so many people's lives and your sound became synonymous with the 80s, how have you moved with the times without diluting your strong sound?
MARK: I'm not sure we have moved with the times really. Its just a question of being true to yourself and making music that you like to make. And then hopefully someone will jump and board and go along for the ride. You run the risk of cheesing off your hard core fans if you suddenly swap around and jump on the latest bandwagon. I can't do that kind of music anyway, I don't want to, but I can't do all these vocal acrobatics and rapping… is just not one of my strong points. I think you just have to stick to what you know.
