Levi Roots Chats To I Like Music

After building himself up as an MC in the early 80's, Levi Roots set up Conqueror Records in 1982, releasing tracks and working with artists such as Mikey General and Ricky Ranking. Numerous trips to Jamaica followed, as well as shows at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Summer Jam in Germany and Reggae on The River, whilst working alongside the likes of Black Uhuru, Maxi Priest and Lee 'Scracth' Perry.

1998 saw Levi's solo album Free Your Mind win him a nomination at the MOBO awards for Best Reggae Performer. Having found widespread fame on Dragon's Den with his Reggae Reggae Sauce, Levi has now completed his new album Red Hot. I Like Music caught up with Levi to chat about music, his new album, the importance of dub and the message of reggae music.

"I Like Music because… music inspires me. Music is the reason I have my business. It's what allows me to get up and feel like I want to go to work. It's very important to me. If I was stuck on an island and you asked me whether it would be my sauce or my guitar, it would be my guitar! The music would inspire me to actually catch some fish! To use my guitar as a raft to sail off the island! If I were to take the sauce I'd have food in my belly and that would be all! Music inspires me." LEVI ROOTS
