Michael Bolton chats to I Like Music
Bob [Dylan] is a very unique individual; he's not your typical anything. So I was very nervous and intimidated and excited, like a little boy pulling up to his house. And I remember, it was a foggy day and the fog was coming across his property, and it was almost like somebody had turned on the smoke machines or something, it couldn't be any eerier. But it turned out to be a total pleasure and we wrote the song in two days. There were a few lyrics that I wanted to have alternate lines on and I just figured, he's too busy I'll never hear from him again, but he faxed me (this was pre-email) about eight lines to use as alternate lines up to the studio where I was recording the record. And I said, 'we're so excited we've started cutting the song already.' And he was happy to hear it. I was happy because I had heard that, if he doesn't love the session, you'll never hear from him again.
ILM: And you don't want that to happen!
MICHAEL: No, so I worked on an idea to bring to him and he liked it, so we got off to a great start.

There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
