Michael Bolton chats to I Like Music

MICHAEL: Musically I guess, That's Life, and personally, Second Time Around, only because, lyrically, it was speaking very specifically about what was going on in my life and it was a major event to get Nicollette into the studio.

She's a very fearless woman, a very fearless person in pretty much every area of her life, but singing was something that she just would not allow herself to do. She just believed as a child that she didn't have a voice. But I've always heard her sing around the house and in the car. She has great pitch so she's singing in key whether she knows it or not, and she has beautiful tones. So I had to talk her into coming into the studio and convince her that, if she wasn't happy with the outcome, we'd press that little delete button and her voice would disappear and the song would stay on the album as a solo version. But I was completely confident that, once she got in and started singing along to the track, we'd get the result we wanted.

ILM: So she was outside of her comfort zone but, in the end, she was very happy with what she delivered?
