Michael Bolton chats to I Like Music

And I just don't know any other artist really that's had that kind of continued enduring airplay. We used to call it recurrent airplay when someone had a hit. For instance, when I recorded When A Man Loves A Woman, there were some people who said, 'Percy Sledge did the definitive version and he's still getting a lot of airplay.' And I said, 'I'm aware of that, I do know that,' but one of the things about stepping up and delivering your interpretation, is that it offers the world another version of something that's classic. And you don't go into that competitively, thinking I'm going to outdo the original version or the version that made it a monster record, you go into it respectfully. You say: I'm never going to out do this person's version, but I may deliver one that'll be around for a long time, and that's the most I can hope for, that people will appreciate my interpretation.
