Pendulum Chat To I Like Music

Paul: It was also about waiting for the right technology to become available to allow us to play it properly live, not just play over the top of a backing track. That was the only kind of technology available to most dance bands. Rob and Gaz wanted to record what was going on in the studio completely live, so if I stop playing drums there are no drums. I'm driving the band, Perry is driving the guitar. For that, it is a live band, a live electronic band. America was a good test. There isn't a massive drum n bass scene over there. So when we're there we're like this sort of futuristic rock band!

Perry: From space!

Paul: Yeah! It's great, that's how we want people to look at it. In the UK because we came out of drum n bass we can be seen as a 'drum n bass band that have got guitars 'n' that.' That's a bit of a narrow minded way of looking at it. I mean, we love drum n bass. We love the way it's produced sound wise, but now, we're taking the technology available into a live arena.
