Pete Tong chats to I Like Music

ILM: Apart from your good self and Carl Cox, James Zabiela is our fave DJ at ilikemusic and deadmau5 (aka BSOD), is our favourite producer. James came from Bedroom Bedlam competition and deadmau5 has grown organically over time. Do you have any advice for DJ's/producers out there? How can a young budding bedroom producer get their music to you - one of the most powerful platforms for promotion of dance music?

PETE: I would say to people that the most important thing is, not to wait in your bedroom for people to come and see you; you've got to be out there and doing stuff. And not to be too preoccupied by the distant horizons, just start trying to affect your own surroundings. If you can start your own club, start a club. If you can get to work in a club, do that. The most powerful thing is your own audience, whether it's five people, ten people or ten thousand people. The world we live in now with the internet, you'd be amazed how much noise you can make with a small but loyal following. That would be the first thing to do.
