Sean Lennon chats to I Like Music
I don't want to put anyone else off, but Tom might be the best engineer I've ever worked with, so he did teach me a lot in terms of balance and mic placement and stuff, just in terms of which mics to use and where to put them, and also just about compressors and stuff. I'm just learning all of that stuff slowly; it's an art form in itself I guess.
ILM: So you've kind of gone full circle as you write your music, played all the instruments on your last album, produced this one, you'll be engineering and recording before you know it.
SEAN: It's not like I'm an ego-maniac or something, it's just more fun for me if I get to be involved in all those aspects, because I just like doing it basically.
ILM: To get your hands dirty and really get in there…
SEAN: Yeah, that's the fun of it for me. I mean, I know people who have string sessions who don't even show up because they don't have to have to sing or play that day. But I like to be there, because that's the fun of making music.
