Sean Lennon chats to I Like Music

SEAN: I was just trying to make it easier for people because my tendency is to be very experimental. With my first record, I really liked it, but I think a lot of people and even me, you might not be in the mood for a certain song when it comes on if it's a totally different style, so I wanted to make a record that was more about listening to it from beginning to end and having a certain type of mood to it, because I like records like that. Joni Mitchell's Blue I really like because it's very consistent. So I wanted something more consistent, even though it's not completely like that, but it's a bit more so.

ILM: And was it quite an organic process, making the record?

SEAN: Well, I had to get it ready in two weeks because of Tom's schedule and Matt Chamberlain, the drummer, so we only had 10 recordings days with Matt on the drums. So it was something I did in a specific frame of time. In terms of having to put records at all, I definitely had a lot of freedom to not do that, everyone does really, you don't have to do it. But I did it this time because I had something to write about I guess.
