Rob X: ilikemusic because... it puts me in the mood...for anything i feel like!Formerly the drums synths and electronics end of the band Simian, James and Jas were already DJing and sending out some inspired eclectic mix tapes as Simian Mobile Disco even before they were inspired to get back in the studio and start producing the same kind of amped up punky mixture of electro, techno and rave they were playing at parties.
Their Attack Decay Sustain Release album follows the success of huge anthem, Never Be Alone (Again) We caught up with one half of Simian Mobile Disco before they headed of to Japan to play Fuji festival to talk about the new album, genre-hopping music and playing live.
"I'm terrified of looking at our diary," admits Jas as they've already played Glastonbury and Melt before Fuji and Bestival. "I can only look at the next two days, that's as far as I go… I avert my eye."
ILM: Your album Attack Decay Sustain Release is out now. Which track did you most enjoy laying down in the studio?
JAS: The one I most enjoyed actually was Sleep Deprivation which was the first one, simply because a lot of the album was written in quite a piecemeal fashion. Me and James would meet up every week or so and knock out a couple of tracks to play that evening or something. We do it so we DJ with the tunes. Then, when we decided to make an album we thought we could make some slightly less dance oriented things and add a bit of breadth to it. So we set a date for mixing and we were supposed to be editing and finessing the stuff and generally doing some more details.
