It gives me an opportunity to truly express myself, unlike what happens in an everyday living situation where there are restrictions on you and limitations on you and demands on you and bills to pay, through music I can truly be comfortable with who I am, and do what I really want to do and say what I really want to say.

Soul of Man chats to I Like Music

Soul of Man are Justin Rushmore and Jem Panufnik who together set up the legendary Finger Lickin' Records in the late nineties. Having been at the forefront of the international breakbeat scene since its early days, Soul of Man have continued to throw handfuls of funk fuelled breakbeat stormers into the open arms of the crowds without holding back. I Like Music caught up with Justin to chat about making tunes, fancy dress and taking mushrooms wearing fruit based hats.

"I Like Music because… it triggers lots of memories of good times in life." JUSTIN RUSHMORE, SOUL OF MAN

ILM: You're playing at Chew The Fat with Atomic Hooligan, the Troublestock charity event to support Paul Arnold. What have you got in store?

Justin: Well it's all a bit jam packed. There are a lot of DJs and not a lot of time to express what you normally do. I'm doing kind of a back to back with Atomic Hooligan, in terms of me doing half an hour then he'll do half an hour. Because I'm playing at peak time, I'm playing at 1am, every Trainspotter, every DJ and raver will be there, so I'm trying to get a load of new tunes and work out a very up there, having it, rave type set.
