Soul of Man chats to I Like Music

Justin: Hmm. I think the notable difference is that the internet has made a huge impact on the creative world, especially in the ways that you can get noticed. It can be through popular choice and building up a memento of people who admire what you do, which I think is great. Unfortunately it has destroyed the music business, because everything is basically free. In terms of approach it is one of those stupid Catch 22 situations, it is chicken and egg, because how do you achieve what you want to achieve if you aren't already successful, and once you are successful it snowballs.

I started organising parties, doing the artwork or employing my parents to run the bar. You just need to be hands on and be enterprising. Making a start and putting yourself out there and getting experience with people. It continues to be like that as well, pulling pints, emptying bins, cleaning out toilets and booking artists etc. It's not always the glamorous DJ side of things. Even with some of the artists who have a very focused plan, there are a lot of things you have to say no to. It's like when you write an essay, you get rid of loads of content, you don't get a pat on the back for the things that you have taken out, you just get slagged off for the things that you have left in. Haha!
