I Like Music Because heading
  • simon f bakersimon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.

  • JunJun: ilikemusic because... music can convey a mood, enhance a mood or change a mood. Music can be used to inspire and the artform is simple yet complicated. It's fun to listen to and even more fun to create and perform. It speaks when just a simple word can't. It's a blessing!!

The Beach Boys David Marks chats to I Like Music

DAVID: I think my book is a great example of what not to do. I didn't set out to become a drug addict; it started out as just something to do with my friends while we played music…it was part of the culture so it was accepted, which made it easy to fall into the false sense that it was OK. But next thing I knew, 20 or 30 years went by and I was still doing the same thing with the same people and not getting anywhere. When you are 18 or 20, you can't picture yourself being a 45 year old pot head or 60 and hooked on coke, you just assume you'll stop some day.

The problem is, when you are constantly high that day never comes. The years I have been most productive musically are not the years I was doing a lot of drugs, but rather, my early teens before I got into the drug scene and the last 8 years since I've been sober.
