The Beach Boys David Marks chats to I Like Music
ILM: In 2006, you, Brian, Mike, Al and Bruce reunited for a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the album Pet Sounds and the double-platinum certification of their greatest hits compilation, Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of the Beach Boys, in a ceremony atop the Capitol Records building in Hollywood. How was that?
DAVID: The Capitol reunion was a great day because of the way the 5 of us connected again. In spite of all the perceived animosity due to the past lawsuits, everyone actually got along really well and was happy to be there - together. Brian was really funny that day, just like when we were kids. It was also amazing to me that the songs we recorded when I was only 13 or 14 years old are still selling millions of copies…its amazing how each new generation seems to be able to identify with The Beach Boys.
ILM: You're on tour with the rest of the Beach Boys, throughout Europe and the US: how's that going?
DAVID: I just finished up playing a 2 week tour of the UK with The Beach Boys. It was actually my first time playing in England as an official Beach Boy, so it meant even more to me. I had so much fun playing those songs, mostly because of how the band's new musical director, Scott Totten has brought the band back to our authentic Beach Boys sounding roots, along John Cowsill who recently moved from keyboards to drums and has adds great, revitalizing energy to the band.
