The Beach Boys David Marks chats to I Like Music
My recent memories are from the days when we got together to specifically honour our past experiences, like when we had the historical landmark statue dedicated to us by the State of California in our old neighborhood. We have all been through a lot together and have lost people along the way, so whenever we get a chance to get together and remember and celebrate the good times it means a lot to me.
ILM: As an original Beach Boy, you were part of the group who signed a contract with Capitol Records in 1962 --- how has the music industry changed for the better and worse since then?
DAVID: I think the music industry has changed for the better because technology allows more people to record at home and to express themselves by finding outlets on the internet, which is a good thing. The bad side is the big business of music has stifled a lot of good music in favour of a more "commercial" approach.

Cesar Sangwa: ilikemusic because... it's there for me through thick and thin, highs and lows. I think about it when I wake up, and when I close my eyes to sleep. I like music because I'm in love with it!
David Jordan: ilikemusic because... It makes me feel good and it puts me in a happy mood.
Chuck, Simple Plan: ilikemusic because... It was always a way to escape whatever problems I was going through; whatever trouble I had, I could just put on a record or a song and feel better right away and I hope that our music can have the same effect on our fans.
Dave: ilikemusic because... Without it there wouldnt be a Global Gathering
Jo Whiley: ilikemusic because... It makes me laugh and it makes my cry and it gets me out of a stress if I’m in a stress, and, if I’m in a good place then it will make me in a better place. It’s all about the emotion, it’s all about the feeling where music takes you to and what affect it has on you.
Steve, Hard-Fi: ilikemusic because... Life is not worth living without it. Everything else could disappear, but music is the one thing that always remains with me throughout my entire life.
Lupe Fiasco: ilikemusic because... It gives me a chance to escape and reach people I wouldn’t ordinarily be able to reach. And without music the world would be kinda quiet.
dawn Leonetti: ilikemusic because... it makes me spin, giggle and bubble up - kinda my own Rice Crispies cereal ("snap, crackle, pop") in the audio form...
