The Charlatans chat to I Like Music

MARTIN: There are about 12 or 14 tracks that never got to see this album, so they're in the vaults at the moment.

ILM: If you could describe the Charlatans sound in one word, what would it be?

TIM: [whispers] Dark.

MARTIN: Lyrically dark, very dark, and musically eclectic. We've brought a couple more influences into our sound. Some tracks stand out, like Shake That does sound like The Charlatans, and Blackened Blue Eyes, but if you come down with Road To Paradise, and City Of The Dead and The Architect, we've just brought some more things to the table, which keeps things really interesting.

TIM: The Architect sounds like the Arctic Monkey's…

MARTIN: Do you think?

TIM: Just, as a word.

ILM: What do you think of Kasabian and other acts clearly inspired by you guys? How does that feel knowing you've inspired the next generation of bands?

MARTIN: It does feel worthwhile that performing bands have got something from the group and there's been a connection there, and that's something that can never be taken away from us. So I do like that; after all these years people can still identify with the group.
