The Charlatans chat to I Like Music

MARTIN: Before you lost your Dictaphone, if you had an idea in your head you'd actually phone your house up and leave it on the answer phone.

TIM: Yeah. But this wouldn't have been as I was still living at my mums then, and she only got an answer phone about four or five years ago.

MARTIN: And the music was something myself and Rob had got together early on. Great riff.

ILM: With you all having so much input on the new album, how did you whittle it to 12 songs?

TIM: It's emotionally draining, because everyone has their own view of what the album should be about. It's draining because it means so much to everyone who's put so much effort in themselves. It's such a long process, because there's five of us, so the manager's saying you've all got to put your own list of 16 together. And there was some we'd all agree on, but there were some that were floaters. I'm sure some of us miss a couple of tracks.
