The Young Knives chat to I Like Music

We do a lot of writing in the studio and, with this, we thought "we really like the way that that sounds", "fake rabbit real snake" and then we got to the point where we thought "We can't change the lyrics now" so we decided to write some lyrics around it and write the meaning into it. Now we tell everyone that's what we meant to write.

ILM: Your second album is due out early 2008, which track did you enjoy laying down the most?

OLIVER: This album has been slightly surprising to us, because we thought we would write more upbeat numbers. But, what has happened is that we've written some things like Terra Firma and there are some slower quite folky moments which have turned out really interesting. When we went into the studio, we thought this is the way the tracks will sound, but they change in the studio. We did a lot of layering of the vocals and the guitars and harmonies and things and there were some slightly sort of super sweet moments - I guess we're getting old! - Which surprised us - we like playing them. Even though they are difficult to play live - which we decided today when we had a practice!
