Scott Gorham - Thin Lizzy - chats to I Like Music

He goes, 'hell we can do that ourselves.' We both stopped talking at this point and thought we could do an album ourselves. That right there was the seed for us to do the Live And Dangerous album. We came straight off of that tour and pitched to the management company and record company and they said 'hell yeah'. They'd seen us live and they knew that we could do it and had big trust in us, so that's actually how that got started.

ILM: And what an album! It's been called one of the best examples in the genre of concert recordings, having been voted the best live rock album of all time by readers of Classic Rock (magazine) - you clearly connected with the audience, but why do you think that was?

SCOTT: Well, I think it was all the preparation that went into it. We kind of based our whole career on being a live act, rather than being a studio band who went in and made killer production albums, we put most of our eggs into the live basket. So really to be able to walk out on stage and have some microphones thrown at us and have an audience in front of us, it was a totally natural feel. You got out there and sort of forgot you were making an album and just did the show.
