Tim Westwood chats to I Like Music

TIM: I think that's the most powerful thing. When something happens you want it hear and now. In a couple of weeks it's the MTV music awards, you want to watch that live, you want to hear the results live, you want to see the footage from that concert and hear about that freestyle right now. If I have Kanye West on my show and he freestyles, people want to hear that now. If I put that on YouTube now it'll get crazy hits in two or three days, after that it's history, literally. That's the immediacy of it, that's the relationship, people can consume things virtually as they happen. The currency is all about timing. It's about having it immediate.

You know, old news now is finished. An artist can record something in the studio and I can be playing it on the radio that night. It's as simple as that, that's the relationship. I don't have to wait for the CD to get pressed, I don't have to wait for the FedEx to arrive. I think news is just the same. People want that now. If 50 Cent is in concert, I want to see that cell phone footage from that concert that someone in the audience has filmed hours later, not in six weeks time.
