Wolfmother chat to I Like Music

Wolfmother release their new single Woman on July 17th, and their album has already been given the title, 'Hottest Record in the World' and a "Single of the Week" with Zane Lowe ... not to mention the small matter of a sell out UK tour culminating at a celebratory, sweat soaked Koko (London). The rockers play Reading and Leeds Festival and are thoroughly enjoying the ride.

We caught up with Chris Ross, bassist and organist (pictured far right) to talk about the making of their video for new single Woman, making music Wolfmother style and how they handle being compared to Led Zeppelin.

"I like music because… it makes me feel alive!"
CHRIS ROSS, WOLFMOTHER

ILM: So, Woman, is out July 10th, a high octane big song and fantastic keyboard bit, we think it's brilliant, is out on July 10. Can you give us your own personal description of the track and its whole vibe?

Chris: Woman is a song that… I remember we went to watch Transam in Sydney and everyone came round to my house full of energy, totally inspired by the show and we started jamming on the spot. At the time it was a very funk riff, clean guitar, like 70s style stuff. And the demo version of Woman was this totally funky Bee Gees style thing rather than singing naturally high projecting a falsetto style, that was ages ago, and then when we started doing Wolfmother, we started jamming the riff again but faster, and heavier and louder, so it became this rock riff. So it was great, we just kept speeding it up and getting right into it, and we were like, 'let's put something crazy bits in there' and just started playing these scales and stuff, and we were like 'yeah, yeah, let's do something like that. And 'play something crazy on the organ' so we were grabbing weird notes to make it scream and stuff. It was like taking a folk song and turning it into a rock song.
