ILM: What's the best and worst thing about Australia?
Chris: From a band's perspective, I've found that the laid back supportive attitude of Australia was very condusive to what we were doing, because noone was doing what we were doing. And in New York and London people are very conscious of what they're peers are doing and what's really cool, but in Australia you have a lot of freedom it's like, 'that's cool man, just do what you've got to do', but the flipside is, it's quite isolated and it's a small country population wise, so you get a bit of a raw deal, it's really hard for a band to get established in Australia and then go somewhere else, it's expensive to fly and it's physically difficult to get to somewhere...
A lot of the world isn't really interested in what Australia are doing and then you're back to square one. I mean there are a lot of people who search for music on the Net, so that's an improvement. A band from the UK or the USA already have a step up when they come to Australia, but it doesn't work the other way round.
ILM: Well congratulations, you've cracked it.
Chris: But we've had a lot of people who've supported and believed in what we're doing. It certainly helps when you've got that support network, to minimize doubts, if everything's working against you it's hard to stay positive, so you need to have belief.
