Daniel: ilikemusic because... When you can finally stop listening to mainstream so called POP and HIPHOP
artists you laugh at how bad it really is. ROCK ON MUSE
Kano: ilikemusic because... It brings people together. It makes people smile and dance, it makes people happy. I like the energy it gives off.
It's like… I've just been in Jamaica recently, doing something with Damian Marley over there. And they just laugh at us over there. The way we think we're some kind of cultural purveyors and the truth be told, our music scene is stagnant. A lot of bands that are around now sound like The Libertines I feel, but eight years on.
In Jamaica they constantly evolve from ska, to reggae to lover's rock, dub, roots, bashment, ragga, dancehall… it's constantly evolving and taking new twists and stuff. They don't call them tunes in Jamaica, they call them riddims. It seems like, in Britain, everything's based more on image and in reinventing past genres I often feel like a I'm in a piranha pool; I'm not sure where my place in it is.
ILM: Well, the way I see it is that you're British, but you're the voice of Britain rather than pigeon-holed. Guess it's far better to be like that than regurgitating past genres and going round in a loop?
