Rooster Chat To ilikemusic.com

Ilikemusic.com interview with Rooster
January 13th 2005

Welcome to 2005 - the year of the Rooster - both in terms of the Chinese calendar and the music charts. Having debuted in the top ten with the fantastic high octane, Come Get Some, 2004 was hot enough, but with a scorching new single, the anthemic Staring At The Sun, out now, and the band's self-titled debut album to follow, Rooster look set to dominate the charts in 2005 with their funky twist on stadium rock.

ilikemusic.com went along to Sony BMG to have a chat with Rooster's 24-year-old lead singer, Nick Atkinson, guitarist Luke Potashnick, 22, bassist Ben Smyth, 19, and drummer David Neale, also 19, before they set off on their 29-date tour.

"I like music because… it's an education, it's a release and it's a lifestyle." LUKE - Rooster

ILM: Your new single, Staring At The Sun is out now, we think it's a great song, can you describe it's vibe and tell me a bit about it?

Luke: It's definitely another rock track, but it's a down-tempo rock track with a really big chorus, and hopefully anthemic melodies that you'd get into. The sense of the song is a bit more brooding than Come Get Some, and it's a bit darker. It's actually about how if you're infatuated with someone that you don't see through that.
