Leon Jean-Marie: ilikemusic because... It transcends. It really creates emotion with someone. That feeling it gives you, it goes through boundaries. To create something, it just breaks through all the walls. When you connect with a song, that is it, that is magic isn't it?
James, Maroon 5: ilikemusic because... It is a gateway into the present moment.
Lady Sovereign: ilikemusic because... I do!
simon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
Just Jack: ilikemusic because... I can’t explain why I like music!
ILM: You became the first act to sign to Brightside/BMG after Hugh Goldsmith called up Nick having remembered him from a previous band. What were you doing with your life when you got the call?
Nick: I left university in Summer 2000 and moved back down to London and had been trying for three and a half years to get into the music industry. I was turning up and labels and did a project with another friend of mine, just me and a guitarist, and then got together with another band where I initially met Hugh. But I called him up actually. I was buying Music Week and trying to stay on top of things and Hugh had made it obvious he liked me, but wasn't that sure about the rest of the band.
I carried on with that band but nothing came of it and everyone went their own separate ways, and I was that close to going back to University, when I gave Luke a call and we started writing. And, as soon as we started writing, I just thought Hugh will really like what we're doing, so I gave him a call to invite him to listen to our new material as I'd found out in Music Week he was starting his own label, and it was great timing. That's kind of the way it works isn't it? You slog your arse off for four years and get nowhere, then it all slots into place.
Luke: Whether it's writing, recording, gigging or whatever, there isn't any one aspect of this that we don't enjoy, and that we don't throw ourselves into with 100% commitment. We want to be doing this for a long time.
And, with 2005 set to be the year of the Rooster in more ways than one, that commitment will set them in good stead for one hell of a ride. Cockle-doodle-doo indeed! Where do I sign up to become a Roosterette?page << 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 >>
