V FESTIVAL 2003 - Hylands Park August 17, 2003

Review by Bez

A very welcome slight shower of rain fell over Hylands Park in Chelmsford as the truly amazing Red Hot Chili Peppers drew to a close a festival that 70,000 visitors will long remember. The sonic onslaught that poured forth from each of the four stages, that together played host to more than an unbelievable 70 acts over the two sunny hot days, left the crowd breathless and screaming for more.

Skin was firing on all cylinders as me and Mike arrived, (we missed out on Feeder, Coldplay, Foo Fighters et al, as we'd only come for the last day). The crowd loved her new stuff, so Skin showed her appreciation back and did some crowd surfing, hand-shaking and hugging while still managing to sing and bounce up and down. Skin rocks. As me and my friend Mike (a festival virgin) arrived to Skin, we were blown away. And Mike stayed like that for most of the day. From the afternoon's inspirational Inspiral Carpets to the beautiful sunny weather, everything was tip top.

Sheer class of the highest order arrived in the beautiful shape of Skye Edwards and her band of down tempo soulful hip hoppers Morcheeba. The sun shone and Skye's smile beamed back as impromptu Mexican waves broke over the glorious site. Later we caught up with Skye. "The highlight for me was the last song, Rome Wasn't Built in a Day, and hearing everyone singing back to us," said Skye.
