V FESTIVAL 2003 - Hylands Park August 17, 2003

Meanwhile, over on the NME stage The Coral played a brilliant set. "Us or David Gray?" they shouted, as their set clashed with the notorious head-wobbler. And everyone shouted that they'd rather watch The Coral's dreamy rocky eclectic set. Brilliant! But the lure of the headliners was calling even the die hard Coral fans, who wanted to get a decent spot for the Chilis on the V stage, us included.

Down came the lights and up turned the amps as 'By The Way' pounded out to the crowd to open a storming set from, quite simply one of THE best bands in the world, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. As the masses went wild, the Chili's responded by upping the ante and bringing out crowd pleasers such as 'Californication' and 'Suck My Kiss ' before blowing everyone away with a set closing rendition of 'Under The Bridge'. The Chili's were never going to disappoint and soared high above anyone's expectations. Truly amazing - awesome - phenomenal. An absolute delight to witness the Chilis in action.

V Festival is now eight years old and just seems to get bigger and better each year. After 48 hours of incredible performances, including some of the greatest acts in the world, you'd better start queueing for your tickets for V Festival 2004. Don't say we didn't warn you…! Let's just hope all these festivals and events can sort out the leaving process, as we were again stuck in the car park for two hours. Still, it was all well worth it. Roll on V2004!
