Jun: ilikemusic because... music can convey a mood, enhance a mood or change a mood. Music can be used to inspire and the artform is simple yet complicated. It's fun to listen to and even more fun to create and perform. It speaks when just a simple word can't. It's a blessing!!
Sarah Christine: ilikemusic because... Music is like a puzzle. Each peice by itself is unique and looks like no other puzzle peice, but when you put it all together, you expeirience a completely different picture. It's on an almost daily basis that I find myself getting lost in my music, and I love it!The groundbreaking Help charity album - the fastest-ever number one hit in UK music history - makes its online debut today (Monday 9th August) to celebrate the launch of www.warchildmusic.com, the unique new website selling exclusive downloads in aid of the War Child charity's global relief work.
The Help album - featuring such bands as Radiohead, Oasis, The Manic Street Preachers, Blur, The Charlatans, Massive Attack, The Stone Roses and The Chemical Brothers - was recorded on Monday 4th September 1995 and rush-released the following Saturday. By the next day, Sunday 10th September, Help was number one in the UK chart - all on the strength of one day's sales.
Help raised some £1.25 million to help children caught up in the war in the former Yugoslavia. Once the album was no longer available in stores, however, it became a much sought-after collectors' item, an important chronicle of UK music at the very height of Britpop. That persistent demand has now resulted in Help's re-appearance, this time spearheading the launch of www.warchildmusic.com.
The entire of Help - all 20 tracks plus artwork - is exclusively available to download for £3.50. Individual tracks cost 99p each. The website also includes the comprehensive track-by-track lowdown on the making of Help, the greatest fundraising album in the world.
