R&B superstar Akon, who has sold over 1 million albums and 1 million singles in the UK alone, and over 8 million albums worldwide, follows his recent global smash Right Now Na Na Na, with the release on March 2nd 2009 of his new Universal single Beautiful. The single, featuring Kardinal Offishall and Colby O'Donis, is taken from the Senegalese born singer/songwriter/producer/label-boss/entrepreneur's new no. 1 hit album Freedom.
In addition Akon has announced a one-off live UK date at the Indigo (02) on Monday January 26th.
The good news keeps coming for Akon as he celebrates the number 1 success of Lady GaGa, who he signed to his Konlive label. Lady Gaga is the second artist from Akon's label to crash the UK charts following Kardinal Offishall's recent huge smash Dangerous. Meanwhile, Right Now, almost 2 months after release, is still in the Top 20 combined singles chart while his gold selling album is also nestled in the Top 20.
Beautiful was very much a people's choice as Akon's next single. The track entered the US iTunes chart Top 10 on release of the digital album, while here in the UK the track went Top 20 on iTunes, on release of the album.
