Arctic Monkeys are staking a claim to be their generation's Oasis by leading the way with a record seven nominations at this year's Shockwaves NME Awards.
Thousands of genuine music fans have voted for the decade's biggest British band in the categories of Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Track, Best Video and Best Album Artwork, with Alex picking up a nomination in the Best Dressed category. They'll find out if they've won at the ceremony, which will take place on 28th February.
Since coming to prominence on the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour just three years ago, Arctic Monkeys have racked up an unprecedented fifteen Shockwaves NME Awards nominations, making them the most voted for band of the decade. With more sales, awards and column inches than most bands achieve in their entire career, Arctic Monkeys clearly ARE the band of a generation.
Arctic Monkeys' Jamie Cook said:
"It's sound the readers keep voting for us. We're chuffed. Best band and best album are always a good one. Live would be good. It's good to have been picked up in that because we put a lot of effort into our live work last year, I thought we got a lot better. So that would be a good'en to win."
