Arctic Monkeys and The Killers Scoop Brits Double

The Arctic Monkeys were the big winners at this year's Brit Awards ceremony in London, winning the Best Album Brit Award for Whatever They Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, along with the award for Best British Group.

The Sheffield band didn't attend the ceremony, instead sending a video message for which the band wore Wizard of Oz costumes. Winning the two most-wanted awards at the Brits ceremony shows how far they've come since a year ago when they won the Best Breakthrough Act award.

Despite their no-show, Alex Turner did say it was "a very special award and is much appreciated by us all".

This year, The Fratellis took home the award for Best British Breakthrough Act, while Orson collected the gong for Best International Breakthrough. Orson self-financed their album for $5000, so this award came as a special treat to the LA band who've relocated to the UK. The Fratellis had tough competition from Lily Allen, Corinne Bailey Rae, James Morrison and The Kooks, but BBC Radio 1 listeners chose them as their winners.

The Killers were the only other band to scoop two awards, winning the Best International Group award and Best International Album for Sam's Town. The Killers beat Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gnarls Barkley to take the International Group award and performed When We Were Young during the ceremony.

  2. JunJun: ilikemusic because... music can convey a mood, enhance a mood or change a mood. Music can be used to inspire and the artform is simple yet complicated. It's fun to listen to and even more fun to create and perform. It speaks when just a simple word can't. It's a blessing!!

There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
