Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian Triumph at Glastonbury

The Arctic Monkeys played their biggest UK show of their lives, having headlined the Pyramid stage on Glastonbury's opening night (Friday June 22). They silenced the critics and proved they weren't too young with too few songs as Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O'Malley kicked off the show with 'The Sun Goes Down' followed by 'Brianstorm' and b-side featuring Dizzee Rascal, Temptation Greets You Like A Naughty Friend.

The Arctic Monkeys who'd never been to Glastonbury, let alone headlined the event said, "This is terrific."

'Do Me A Favour' and 'Leave Before The Lights Come On' brought the set to a close with the audience singing along, before an encore which saw the band play 'The View From The Afternoon'

Then Alex Turner announced: "We'd like to play a cover for you, like we said it only happens once, so we want to do something special for you, we're thrilled to be here. Shirley Bassey is playing on Sunday, so this one is for Shirley."

The band then played their cover of Bassey's 'Diamonds Are Forever' before closing their set with 'A Certain Romance'.
