leah + melissa: ilikemusic because... its sickArctic Monkeys lead the way at this years NME Awards with four nominations, up for best British band, live band, album and music DVD. The Sheffield band are hoping to repeat their NME Award success from last year where they won three awards, including best British group.
Kasabian, Muse, My Chemical Romance and The Killers are also up for four NME awards this year. The winners, selected by readers of the NME will be announced on 1 March at a ceremony at Hammersmith Palais, London.
Arctic Monkeys face competition from Babyshambles, Muse, Oasis and Kasabian for the best British band award.
The best album award see's Arctic Monkeys Whatever You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, battle it out with Kasabian's Empire, The Killers' Sam's Town, Muse's Blackholes and Revelations and My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade.
The Horrors, the Fratellis, Klaxons, The Kooks and The View are nominated for the best new band award, while CSS, The Killers, My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and We Are Scientists are in the running for best international band.
Lily Allen has been nominated for awards for best solo artist. Her compeition includes Jarvis Cocker, Jamie T, Thom Yorke and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly.
NME editor Conor McNicholas said: "This year's nominations reflect what has been an exceptional 12 months for rock music.
"Whether recognising the phenomenal success of bands like Arctic Monkeys, Muse and My Chemical Romance, or shining a spotlight on exciting emerging talent like The View, Klaxons and The Horrors, the nominations list demonstrates the richness and variety at the heart of our scene."
