Arctic Monkeys album tops UK chart

The Arctic Monkeys have stormed straight to the top of the chart with their new album Favourite Worst Nightmare. It is expected to be the best-selling album of the year so far, having sold a whopping 85,000 copies on its first day of sale. Their debut album was the best selling album of all time, selling 360,000 copies in its first week of release last year.

Mark Ronson's Version album kept it's position at number two with Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing becoming the third best album, slipping from number one to number three. Beyonce saw her enhanced version of B'Day enter the chart at number eight. While Ella Fitzgerald's Forever Ella 90th birthday celebration album went in at number 20.

Meanwhile, in the singles chart, Beyonce and Shakira retained their number one position with their duet, Beautiful Liar. The Arctic Monkeys new single Brianstorm slipped from two to seven, while the other 11 tracks from their Favourite Worst Nightmare album also charted inside the top 200 on download sales only.

Avril Lavigne climbed from four to three with Girlfriend and Timbaland climbed from three to two with Give It To Me featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. Mika also saw his Love Today single climb up the chart to number six, just below Mark Ronson at number five with Stop Me. Ne-Yo rose two places from six to number four with Because Of You.

Travis were the biggest climbers in this week's chart, rising 26 places to number 10 with Closer. Gym Class Heroes were at number eight with Cupid's Chokehold while Natasha Bedingfield whose new album NB is out this week, saw her single, I Wanna Have Your Babies slip two places to number nine.
