Babyshambles at the 02 Wireless Festival

Due on stage at 7.30, Babyshambles' presence could be felt around the festival all day. Everywhere you looked there were men of various ages wearing drainpipe jeans and Pete-style hats, in a vain attempt to emulate their hero. The mellow crowd got noticeably more aggressive as the afternoon wore on; there was a buzz of tension in the air, and the occasional shout of "Come on Pete, you ****!".

It began to pour with rain, but thousands of people stood fast, determined to see what all the fuss was about. But as time crept on past 7.30, and there was no sign of the band, rumours began to spread regarding their whereabouts - from the almost believable ("they're stuck in traffic") to the ridiculous ("Pete's gone to get Kate a Macdonalds").

Babyshambles' reputation for turning up late or not at all precedes them and the fans' patience was certainly tested today. Eventually, almost an hour late, the band bowled up on stage accompanied by a huge voyeuristic entourage and a handful of poor excuses.
