Barringtone - Snake In The Grass
Snake In The Grass is the debut single from Barringtone, the latest incarnation of Barry Dobbin, frontman of the now demised schizoid electronic rockers Clor. Produced by fellow sonic traveller Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco, it's a startling, dramatic and ever so slightly deranged slice of future retro pop. The single also features the equally frenetic instrumental Salad Of Despair as well as an alternative but no less mesmerising version of Snake In The Grass.
Picking up from where Clor left off, Barringtone and their discordant pop madness are sure to be one of the most talked about new bands of 2008. Their music oozes with the same genius jerky post punk electronic energy which will make you want to dance your sweaty socks off.
Barringtone make gloriously experimental pop music - unhinged and irresistable - with a sensibility informed by a love of Eno, Rundgren, Devo and Pavement through to contemporary artists such as Ariel Pink, Palace Music and Deerhoof.
Formed in 2007 and with the help of a guitar, a bass and a set of drums - Barringtone, aka Connan Coolidge, Boomer Opperman and Barry Dobbin, set about probing pop's nether regions with an unseemly vigour. Insistent rhythms, monolithic bass and nonsensical guitar merge to produce something altogether unexpected - a sonic miasma of bizarre urge-driven splendour.
