Bestival 2006 Announce Headliners as the Pet Shop Boys

What a year it's been for Bestival! First they won two Awards - the 'Most Innovative' and 'Best Medium Sized' Festival at the UK Festival Awards - that sent them nuts! Then when their heads finally stopped spinning they got stuck into their preview parties at London's Koko and now they are unleashing the beautiful beast that is 'Bestival the 3rd' - yes indeed its the third jaunt across the Solent to park homestead Robin Hill on 8th,9th and 10th September.

It may be the last festival of the summer season but don't hang around as these hot cakes are flying as Rob da Bank reveals the first cheeky insight into the weird and wonderful world of Bestival.

Firstly, the legendary Pet Shop Boys are headlining Saturday night at Bestival! Genius! Since scoring their first number one hit with "West End girls" 20 years ago, Pet Shop Boys have gone on to become the most successful pop duo in history with 36 top 20 hits and ten top ten albums. Not only are they fabulously cool, they have after all collaborated with the likes of Dusty Springfield, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Liza Minnelli, Yoko Ono and Madonna, but this is their only UK Festival appearance in this their 20th year at the top!

  2. simon f bakersimon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
  3. Leon Jean-MarieLeon Jean-Marie: ilikemusic because... It transcends. It really creates emotion with someone. That feeling it gives you, it goes through boundaries. To create something, it just breaks through all the walls. When you connect with a song, that is it, that is magic isn't it?
  4. Chuck, Simple PlanChuck, Simple Plan: ilikemusic because... It was always a way to escape whatever problems I was going through; whatever trouble I had, I could just put on a record or a song and feel better right away and I hope that our music can have the same effect on our fans.
  5. Cesar SangwaCesar Sangwa: ilikemusic because... it's there for me through thick and thin, highs and lows. I think about it when I wake up, and when I close my eyes to sleep. I like music because I'm in love with it!
  6. RobynRobyn: ilikemusic because... It’s the way I want to express myself. It’s not a choice. It’s just always been there. It’s just what I do.

  8. lolololo: ilikemusic because... music is where some people display affection, show emotions and actually showing off who they are and their thinking. it is special unlike anything cos it goes out and never comes in back but in others.
