Bloc Party Favour Digital Over Physical Releases

Gordon Moakes, Bloc Party bassist, told BBC 6Music that the band felt the traditional release method of physical CDs did not hold the same importance that it used to.

As the result of the digital age taking a stronger hold on the music industry, Moakes continued in his statement, seeming to confirm the demise of the CD, by announcing that the band may not release another single on a physical format.

"I think the days are gone where you can really make a splash in the charts, being a band like us, and have that sort of thing make a difference to your reputation and your sales," he said.

"Music was never a competition, who ever made it a competition? One decision might be to not get involved in that and put out non-eligible things on purpose."

In August Bloc Party announced that their third album Intimacy would be released digitally. This came as a surprise and as a result meant the album was not initially chart eligable.

On Monday 27th October the album was release on physical formats. Moakes also stated that the current Bloc Party single Talons may be their final physical release.

One thing the format of the single or album does not affect is your chance to catch Bloc Party live in 2009. They will be playing the following dates.
