Cheryl Cole has scored her first number one as a solo artist with the release of Fight For This Love, which soared to the top of the UK singles chart this week.

The X-Factor Judge and Girls Aloud member said:

"I'm just getting over the fact I have recorded my solo record and now it's number one.

"I can't take this all in. It's hard for me to put into words how I feel. I have this permanent smile on my face."

Fight For This Love is now the fastest selling single of the year so far. With more than 290,000 sales, the track knocked Alexandra Burke, who won last years X Factor, from the top spot.

Alexandra Burke charted at number two this week, with her single Bad Boys. Chipmunk remained at three with Oopsy Daisy, while Whitney Housten crept up from last weeks fifteen to chart at number four with her single Million Dollar Bill. Robbie Williams fell three places to complete the top five.

Young Soul Rebels entered the chart at number eleven this week with their charity single I Got Soul, recorded by a number of UK stars for War Child.
