Half The Tickets Sold For Glastonbury 2009

Half of the total tickets available for Glastonbury Festival 2009 have already been sold, six months earlier than usual.

On October 5th the tickets went on sale, with buyers only having to pay £50, before paying the rest of the ticket price later in 2009. Over 68,500 were sold in the course of the day.

Organisers of the legendary music festival wanted to avoid the problems they had with Glastonbury 2008, when tickets were not sold out when the event began. This was thought to be due to bad weather of previous festivals, competition from a whole host of new, younger festivals across the country, and the fact that the headline acts had been leaked early, with rapper Jay-Z causing a stir.

Michael Eavis wanted to introduce a system that avoided problems buyers had experienced before. This year there is no limit to the amount of tickets one person can purchase. It is hoped that this will give fans an equal chance of attending.

Says Michael Eavis: "It's really exciting that people are still remembering one of the best Festivals we've ever held and are clearly already looking forward to the next one. June saw the most diverse audience for 10 years or so, and hopefully this new fairer ticket system will mean that we have a great crowd again in 2009."

The remainder of tickets will go on sale on the 5th April 2009.
