I Kissed A Girl, the debut single from Californian pop sensation Katy Perry, has topped the UK singles charts on download sales alone. This song has been almost custom made for the top spot. Perry shares writing credits with the likes of Max Martin (Britney Spears' Baby One More Time) Dr Luke (Sugababes' About You Now) and British singer-songwriter Cathy Dennis (Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out Of My Head)
With lyrics such as ""I kissed a girl and I liked it," and "The taste of her cherry chap stick, I kissed a girl just to try it, I hope my boyfriend don't mind it, it felt so wrong, it felt so right." Katy Perry has caused a bit of a stir in the media and a number of gay communities, questioning her motives…is this a bit of innocent fun or a temptuous trick to capture the hearts of male passers by?
Whatever your opinion, this media stir has clearly had an impact on the songs success. Knocking last weeks number one, All Summer Long by Kid Rock, from the top-spot, down to number two.
The highest new entry in the UK singles chart this week came from The Verve at number five with Love Is Noise.
