Jason Derulo Knocks Haiti Single From Top Spot

Jason Derulo

American R&B singer Jason Derulo has knocked The Helping Haiti song, a celebrity charity single, from the number one spot this week.

20 year old Jason went straight in at number one with his single In My Head. The Helping Haiti song, a cover of REM's Everybody Hurts, fell eight places to chart at number nine after spending two weeks at number one.

Orchestrated by Simon Cowell, the charity single features stars including Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole and Leona Lewis. Recorded to help victims of the Haiti earthquake, The Helping Haiti song notched up bigger first week sales than any charity track of recent years. The proceeds from the record are being split between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and The Sun newspaper's Helping Haiti campaign.

Florence Welch and Dizzee Rascal were a non mover at number two, with their joint single You Got The Dirtee Love. Rihanna moved up three places this week, which saw her single Rude Boy chart at number three.

Ellie Goulding, winner of the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, entered the single charts at number four this week with her single Starry Eyed. This was followed by Alicia Keys as a non mover at five.

New entries into the singles chart this week came from Sugababes at seven with Wear My Kiss, Chiddy Bang at twelve with Opposite of Adults, Alphabeat at 29 with Hole In My Heart, Pixie Lott at 35 with Gravity and Muse at 38 with Resistance.

Lady Gaga jumped up a spot to top the UK album chart this week with The Fame. Glee Cast The Music, Season One Vol 1 fell one place to chart at number two. Alicia Keys followed at three with The Element of Freedom while Florence and The Machine dropped one spot to chart at number four with debut album Lungs.

Marina and The Diamonds saw her debut album The Family Jewels enter the chart at number five. The Courteeners were a new entry at six with Falcon, while Johnny Cash entered the chart at nine with American VI: Ain't No Grave.

Other new entries into the UK album chart came from The Hollies at number 23 with Midas Touch, The Very Best Of. Michael Jackson at 24 with This Is It and Timbaland at 25 with Shock Value 2.

Our Gracie - The Best Of entered the chart at 29 this week. Born in 1898, Gracie Fields returns to the charts more than 30 years after her death.

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "Whether it's the current economic climate or a simple yearning for more optimistic times, you get a real sense that nostalgia has a growing appeal right now."
