Jazz Cafe Picnic 2006 Review

Laden down with our picnic hampers and blankets, we made our way through the happy eclectic mix of picnic-goers to find our spot and prepare for a day to remember.

Jazz Café Picnic is such an incredibly refreshing alternative to the ever-increasing popular rock and dance festivals. The crowd is made up of all ages and particularly attracts the former clubbing generation who, armed with babies, buggies and toddlers are happy to swap hot n' sweaty house for chilled-out, soulful jazz in the lovely British outdoors.

Even the stalls lining the lawn are top quality, from providers of Earl Grey to organic burgers. It's about quality over quantity, and it works!

What's more, the picturesque setting of Marble Hill where the lawn gently slopes from the stunning 1729 Palladian villa down to the main stage and on towards the River Thames, provides a delightful ambience and vibe... And we haven't even mentioned the music yet!!

The live programme on the day is intentionally eclectic to represent the wide variety of music the Jazz Cafe puts on itself throughout the year, and this year's line up was a delicious smorgasbord of musical treats. From up-tempo and down-tempo jazz and funk, to electronica, bossa nova and latin salsa, a spectacularly smooth sonic selection.
