You could be completely miserable or waiting for a bus and put on any song that inspires you and you can escape into a little world, well that’s what I tend to do anyway.

Jazz Cafe Picnic 2006 Review

Snowboy & The Latin Section, Europe's premier afro-cuban jazz ensemble kicked off proceedings with their New-York style Latin salsa and jazz, enticing the sun from behind the clouds and welcoming everyone along. A hugely hip swinging and funk fuelled welcome it was too. Snowboy had got everyone in the mood for a blissed out bevy of beats.

They were followed by the fresh jazz-tronica of Swedish duo, Koop, who impressed the 8000 strong crowd with their breezy mix of mellow electronica, bossa and bop and provided the perfect backdrop to the popping of champagne corks, catching up with friends and sampling snacks from the hamper.

However, inevitably, the heavens opened. But, rather than dampen spirits, it lifted them, as we huddled under a sea of umbrellas and assortment of groundsheets and waterproofs.

Just a few wet minutes later and the showers stopped, the cloud-dotted blue skies were back and there was a change to the bill. Breakestra had been unable to perform so Foreign Beggars took their place, and WHAT a show!
