Keane Score Number One in UK Album Chart and Nelly Furtado Does The Double

Keane have entered the UK album chart at Number one this week, with their incredible album, Under The Iron Sea.

Meanwhile Nelly Furtado has kept her place at the top of the singles chart, and has knocked Sandi Thom's I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker off the top of the Download Chart, doing the single charts double.

Nelly Furtado has a new entry in the album chart too, with her new album Loose going in at number five.

Keane's debut album, Hopes And Fears was one of the most successful albums of the year in 2004, and they've followed it up with an epic.

When I Like Music spoke to Keane drummer Richard in May, he said of the new album:

"With the first album we had lots of time and had rehearsed the songs enough to just go and record them pretty quickly, but with this new album we had to work it out as we went along. It was pretty cool to be able to go into the studio and record what we felt like - in the end we had so much equipment set up that it was hard to walk through the room.

"I'd turn up in the morning, open my car door and not know what crazy sound Tim was getting out of his piano - it rarely sounded like a piano, that's for sure. One of the most crucial moments in a song's life is when Tom sings it for the first time - it's a real make or break moment.

"Tom's the best rock singer around. He has an incredible range, and listening to him singing vocals in the studio was amazing."

Meanwhile as one of Britain's Best Band's tops the album chart, its Football mania in the singles chart for the World Cup 2006. Embrace lead the way with the football songs, with Sham 69 at number ten and the reissue of Three Lions by Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds at nine.
