Only By The Night, the fourth album from US rockers Kings Of Leon, has topped the UK album charts once again. Though they have remained a permanent fixture in the UK album chart top ten since the release of the album, many think that their number one this week is a direct result of their recent success at the BRIT Awards, which saw them win Best International Group and Best International Album.
The affect of the BRIT awards also touched Duffy. After winning three awards, British Female Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act and British Album, Rockferry jumped 15 places in the album chart, landing at number four. The sales of the album almost doubling in just one week.
Last week's number one, It's Not Me, It's You by Lily Allen charted at number two. Morrissey came in at number three with Year Of Refusal, the highest new entry in the album chart. This was followed by Elbow who charted at number five with The Seldom Seen Kid, perhaps benefiting from the BRIT Award bump, after winning Best British Group.
Though The Ting Tings failed to win an award at this years BRITs, they did benefit from their performance at the ceremony, with a sales increase of more than 80% for their debut album We Started Nothing, which charted at number eight, after charting at number 33 last week.
Lily Allen remained at the top of the singles chart for the fourth week in a row with The Fear, while Lady GaGa remained at number two with Just Dance.
Use Somebody by Kings Of Leon charted at number three, followed by The Prodigy rinsing it out at number four with their latest release Omen. The top five was completed this week by Alesha Dixon and her moving ballad Breathe Slow.
The highest new entry in this week's singles charts came from U2, who opened the BRITs award show. Their single Get On Your Boots entered the charts at number 12.
Other new entries included Fly On The Wall by Miley Cyrus, charting at 16 and Taylor Swift with Love Story at number 22. DJ Leonid Rudenko debuted at 24 with his dance track Everybody, while Gary Go charted at 25 with his single Wonderful.
